The Minot State hockey program just got bigger with the addition of 6’4 defenseman Jon Stephansson of the OCN Blizzard.
MINOT, N.D. — When the season begins in couple of weeks your Minot State University Beavers Hockey Team will once again be one of the biggest teams in the country. The Beavers have added 6’4 defenseman Jon Stephansson from the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). With the losses of defenseman 6’4 Captain Nigel Dube and defenseman 6’5 Dallas Drysdale it was imperative the team recruited a player with size. Stephansson pronouced “Stef-an-son” hails from Winnipeg, MB, Canada began the MJHL season with the Winnipeg Blues before being traded to the OCN Blizzard at the January 10th deadline.
Head Coach Wade Regier commented on the commitment. “Jon was a premiere stay at home defenseman for the past couple of seasons in the MJHL. He is one of the strongest and smartest guys on the ice. He uses his size effectively and understands every in game situation. With so much offensive talent up front it was important we brought someone as defensive as Jon to counteract that. He will fit nicely with our returning core on defense and new recruits coming in.”
Stephansson becomes the second recruit from the MJHL joining Eric Baldwin of the Virden Oil Capitals.
